Introduction: Protecting the Earth, Sustaining Life
The environment is the foundation of all life on Earth. Every breath we take, every drop of water we drink, and every crop that grows depends on a healthy and balanced ecosystem. Yet, Kenya—like much of the developing world—is facing growing environmental challenges: deforestation, pollution, poor waste management, and the rising effects of climate change.

At Elgon Lifeline Support, we believe that caring for the planet is inseparable from caring for people. Our Environmental Conservation Program focuses on tree planting, community awareness, waste management, and sustainable resource use. By empowering communities to take ownership of their environment, we are not only restoring nature but also creating a legacy of sustainability for generations to come.
The Challenge: Environmental Degradation in Kenya Kenya’s natural resources are under significant pressure. Rapid population growth, urbanization, and poor land-use practices have led to:
Deforestation — Millions of trees are cut each year for charcoal, timber, and farmland, threatening ecosystems and reducing rainfall.
Soil erosion and land degradation — Especially in hilly areas like Mount Elgon and parts of Western Kenya, where fertile soil is washed away due to deforestation.
Poor waste disposal — Open dumping and plastic pollution have contaminated rivers, farms, and urban centers.
Climate change — Erratic rainfall and droughts are increasingly affecting agriculture, food security, and water availability.
These challenges directly affect the lives of rural families—reducing farm yields, increasing poverty, and causing health problems. Without urgent action, future generations risk inheriting a depleted environment.
Our Commitment: Restoring Nature, Empowering Communities Elgon Lifeline Support is driven by the conviction that environmental conservation must begin at the community level. Our work brings together local leaders, youth, women’s groups, and schools to take practical steps toward environmental restoration and sustainability.

Our core initiatives include:
- Tree Planting & Reforestation We organize large-scale tree planting campaigns in deforested and erosion-prone areas, especially around the Mount Elgon region. Working with schools, local farmers, and community forest associations, we plant indigenous and fruit trees to:
- Restore lost forest cover
- Prevent soil erosion and flooding
- Improve rainfall patterns
- Provide fruits and shade for local families
Each tree we plant is a promise—a commitment to cleaner air, fertile soil, and a greener tomorrow.
- Waste Management & Clean-Up Drives In many rural and urban communities, poor waste disposal poses a major health and environmental risk. Plastic bottles, polythene bags, and household waste often end up in rivers or open dumps.
Elgon Lifeline Support partners with local authorities and youth groups to:
- Conduct community clean-up drives in markets, schools, and water catchment areas.
- Promote waste segregation and recycling through awareness workshops.
- Support small-scale entrepreneurs who turn waste into reusable products like eco-bricks, compost, or handicrafts.
Our goal is to turn waste into value and create cleaner, healthier living spaces.
- Environmental Education & Awareness We believe that knowledge is the root of change. Through environmental education programs, we teach schoolchildren and communities the importance of conservation, climate change mitigation, and sustainable living.
Our school-based programs include:
- Tree planting clubs and green competitions
- Lessons on recycling and biodiversity
- Workshops for teachers and parents on environmental stewardship
By nurturing eco-conscious youth, we are building the next generation of environmental leaders.
- Sustainable Agriculture & Climate Action To reduce pressure on natural resources, Elgon Lifeline Support trains farmers on climate-smart agriculture, including:
- Organic farming techniques
- Soil conservation methods
- Water harvesting for irrigation
- Use of drought-resistant crops
These practices not only conserve the environment but also improve food security and household income, especially in semi-arid areas.
Impact Stories:
Real Change in Local Communities In the villages around Mount Elgon, hundreds of families now enjoy greener landscapes thanks to Elgon Lifeline Support’s tree planting drives.
- Over 50,000 trees have been planted in the past three years.
- Local schools have established “Green Corners” where pupils nurture tree seedlings and learn about ecology.
- Women’s groups have started small recycling projects that generate income while cleaning up their neighborhoods.
Each initiative tells a story of hope — proof that small actions can yield big impact when people work together.
Collaboration: Working with Partners for Greater Impact
Environmental conservation cannot succeed in isolation. That’s why Elgon Lifeline Support collaborates with:
- County governments and NEMA (National Environment Management Authority)
- Schools and faith-based organizations
- Corporate partners through CSR programs
- Local youth and women’s groups
Together, we amplify awareness, share resources, and scale impact. We also advocate for stronger environmental policies and sustainable practices at both local and national levels.
Linking Conservation with Our Other Programs Our conservation work complements other Elgon Lifeline Support programs:
Clean Water & Sanitation — Protecting water sources ensures long-term access to clean water.
Education for Vulnerable Children — Environmental clubs and school tree nurseries enhance learning and responsibility.
Health & Livelihoods — Cleaner environments reduce disease and improve community wellbeing.
We see conservation not as a standalone project but as a foundation for sustainable development.
